collect and organise data, create clear visual representations, compare categories, interpret graphs, identify patterns and trends, answer questions using data, discuss findings, and communicate conclusions using mathematical language.

Lesson Ideas

Class Survey

Collect simple class data such as favourite fruit, pets or ways of travelling to school. Enter the results together and build a graph to represent the information clearly.

Spot the Pattern

Create a graph from a set of results and ask children to describe any patterns or trends they notice. Encourage them to support their ideas using evidence from the data.

Predict and Check

Show part of a data set and ask children to predict how the finished graph might look. Add the remaining data and compare their predictions with the final result.
